The Rumble Pak was the first home video-game controller accessory to create a physical sensation that complements the on-screen action. When connected to the Nintendo 64 Controller, the Rumble Pak creates different degrees of vibrations, depending on the actions on-screen. The unit vibration increases when a large explosion is experienced, e.g., after defeating a level boss.
With Star Fox 64, the unit creates various short vibrations when players use the turbo boost, brake, hit the ground or a wall, or are hit by enemy fire. |

Only available in Japan, the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive was the first writeable bulk data storage device for a modern video game console. The 64DD stores 64 megabytes of gaming data on a writeable magnetic disk drive.
The Nintendo 64 Disk Drive includes a 4 megabyte RAM (Random Access Memory) upgrade for the Nintendo 64, which brings the total RAM for the console to 8 megabytes. However, the Expansion Pak, which is available separately, also upgrades the N64 from 4 megabytes to 8 megabytes of RAM.
The Nintendo 64 Disk Drive will only enhance games that have been developed to take advantage of its functionality. No such N64 games are sold in the USA or Europe. It never did get released in the USA or Europe. |

The "Expansion Pak" is a 4-megabyte Random Access Memory (RAM) cartridge that inserts into the top of the Nintendo 64 game console. There is a removable panel on the top of the console, and the 4 meg Expansion Pak simply slides into the slot.
Total RAM memory will increase to 8MB, allowing players to enjoy select Nintendo 64 games using a "high resolution" option. High resolution mode graphics are more crisp and contain a higher definition than the already brilliant Nintendo 64 graphics.
The Expansion Pak is compatible only with games developed with a high-resolution mode. (Existing games will not be able to take advantage of this, for the game must be programmed to accommodate the Pak). |
| Rare were one of the major developers for the N64. |
