If anyone can first remember seeing Magician
Lord or Nam 75 on the Neo Geo when these games first hit the home market they will never forget how breathtaking these games were for their time.
They were up to the standard and if not better then the latest coin ops at that time. You have to remember that back in 1990 the coin ops were years ahead of the home games market, unlike now where we have PC, PS3 etc. matching their arcade counterparts. |

| Neo Geo's unique high-tech 'parallel processing' uses 7 specialist processors to divide the work load. This means that speed is irrelevant, it does it so fast that the system doesn't even need 'work RAM' like other consoles. | ||
|
Instead of redrawing the sprite smaller then larger to create a scaling effect, the Neo Geo actually moves the sprite back and forth. The high speed rotation and scaling at the same time is flawless without any flickering or slowdown.
The system employs a 15 track stereo soundtrack which you can listen to using either the headphone socket on the front of the console or through your own sound system. Put all this together and you have a true professional home arcade. |

The Neo Geo cartridge AES machine is now discontinued despite being released in Europe, Japan and the States. A very small quantity of Neo Geo carts still get released though for the home market from third party companies like Playmore. |

MVS cartridges are used in the arcade machines. Although you cannot use MVS carts on a home system (unless you use a converter) and vice versa they are usually the same versions released on both.
A lot of the MVS arcade games never got released for the home AES market, titles like Fight Fever, Panic bomber and Captain Tomaday for example.
Also there was a 'Hyper Neo Geo 64' for the arcade but not many games got released for this great new system due to the expense, and unfortunately it flopped. We stock the Hyper mother boards. Click here for info. |

SNK also released a machine called The Neo Geo CD, the advantage with this machine being the games cost £50.00 rather then £300.00 which is what the new cartridges can cost, the only drawback though was the loading times of the CD's which were very slow. SNK did address this problem though and released The Neo Geo CDZ in Japan which loaded the CD's twice as quick as the older model. Also for the collectors out there a CD machine front loader (rather then top loader) was released.

Most of the back catalogue of Neo Geo cartridges got released on CD, although some titles like Pulstar, Crossed Swords 2 & Metal Slug 2 for example got produced in very small quantity thus resulting in these and many other titles now very sought after.
As for the future SNK filed for bankruptcy in April 2001, but 'Playmore' in Japan brought the rights to release new Neo Geo titles for the future, and 'Sammy's' Atomiswave arcade system now has the rights to the latest arcade titles like 'Metal Slug 6'. So even going into the year 2006 Neo Geo games are still being released on certain platforms to enjoy! |
